چکیده

ISSEKUTZ, B., JR., H. I. MILLER, P. PAUL, AND K. RODAHL. Effect of lactic acid on free fatty acids and glucose oxidation in dogs. Am. J. Physiol. Qog(6): I 137-1144. Ig65.-Palmitate-I-04 or glucose-C14( U) was infused intravenously for 4 hr at a constant rate in unanesthetized dogs with indwelling arterial and venous catheters. 02 uptake and CO2 output were measured. Specific activity of CO2 and of plasma FFA or plasma glucose was determined. Infusion of Na-L( +)-lactate greatly reduced the rate of release and uptake and the rate of oxidation of FFA in normal as well as in pancreatectomized dogs. Lactate decreased also the oxidation of plasma sugar but to a lesser degree. The elevated blood lactate seems to have a glucose-sparing effect in the resting dog. This may lead to accumulation of a-glycerophosphate and may explain the FFA-lowering effect of lactate. Na-n( -)-lactate infused in comparable concentration had no similar effect.

Inhibitory effect of citric acid on rancidity of frozen catfish (Silurus glanis)fillets

The effect of aqueous solution of citric acid (CA) on the lipid stability of the European catfish (Silurus glanis) fillets during frozen storage (up to 6 months) was investigated. Rancidity development was measured by several biochemical indices (free fatty acids, peroxides and TBA) and complemented by the measurement of expressible moisture and sensory evaluation (flesh odor, consistency and f...

Antioxidant effect of ascorbic acid on the quality of Cobia (Rachycentron canadum) fillets during frozen storage

The effect of aqueous solutions of ascorbic acid (AA) on the rancidity development in Cobia (Rachycentron canadum) fillets during frozen storage was studied. Cobia fillets were treated with ascorbic acid (AA 0.25% and AA 0.5%) then stored at -18°C up to 6 months. Rancidity development was measured by several biochemical indices including free fatty acids (FFA), peroxide value (PV), and thiobarb...

The gut hormone ghrelin partially reverses energy substrate metabolic alterations in the failing heart.

BACKGROUND The gut-derived hormone ghrelin, especially its acylated form, plays a major role in the regulation of systemic metabolism and exerts also relevant cardioprotective effects; hence, it has been proposed for the treatment of heart failure (HF). We tested the hypothesis that ghrelin can directly modulate cardiac energy substrate metabolism. METHODS AND RESULTS We used chronically inst...
